During Dutch Design Week 2026 (October 17–25), a pavilion called BLOK—built entirely from three Finch modules—will be on display at Strijp-S in Eindhoven. While our modules are typically used in construction projects throughout the country, here they are open to the public at an iconic Dutch design festival.
BLOK is an initiative of JAJO and Revolve, with a clear goal: to put wood construction and CO₂ reduction on the map. Not as a distant dream, but as a practical and desirable alternative that you can already build today. CO₂ often remains an abstract concept; BLOK makes the meaning of biobased construction tangible and perceptible through the senses. The name stands for Biobased, Lifestyle, Encounter, and Knowledge Sharing. The traveling pavilion serves as a demonstration space, a meeting place, and a visitor center all at once.
The pavilion doesn’t just promise circular construction—it’s proof of it. After Dutch Design Week, BLOK will be taken apart and rebuilt elsewhere, each time using the same modules. These modules form the structural foundation: strong, flexible, and fully demountable.
Finch Buildings supplies the load-bearing modules and has been involved with BLOK from the very beginning. Around that foundation, a collective of circular makers is working on the pavilion, which was designed by architect Geurt Holdijk. For the biobased finishing, companies including Finti, SAM Panels, SeaWood Materials, Zwarthout, Pretty Plastic, Triple Solar, and Solarix are joining the project, each making their own contribution—from wooden window frames and facade panels to smart, sustainable systems. Together, they demonstrate just how broad and mature biobased construction has become.
The theme of Dutch Design Week 2026 is R.A.W.: raw, honest, and authentic, with a focus on the essence of design and on materials without embellishment. Building with solid wood fits seamlessly into this concept. It’s not just a layer of sustainability applied to an existing system, but a structure that is circular by design.
