More designers with sustainable ideals - in the absence of clients asking for timber construction - started their own timber construction business in recent years. Architect Jurrian Knijtijzer, for example, has been developing wooden modules with his company Finch Buildings since 2014. With these, he has now completed fourteen projects, from a turret with 22 starter apartments in Amsterdam North to a complex with 158 rental homes in Haarlem. 'That's less than I expected ten years ago,' says Knijtijzer. 'Although I realize that we have done more than build: those projects have also contributed to the acceptance of timber construction.'
