Gouda Winterdijk, a sustainable wooden home for young people and emergency seekers

Gouda Winterdijk, Dec. 16.r - A special day in a special place. We are on Winterdijk to celebrate the completion of a wooden residential building with 60 Finch apartments. A school once stood here. The wooden modules that make up the brand-new residential building were placed on a steel structure on the foundation of the school.

Looking beyond today

The homes are designed for small households. For people who currently have few opportunities in the housing market: young people and emergency seekers. The residents share a large living room, storage rooms and a laundry room. Mozaïek Wonen rents the homes. The housing corporation was looking for a sustainable housing solution. That the wood module construction concept is circular, moveable and made entirely of wood immediately appealed to Mozaïek Wonen. The modules are made of cross-layer timber (CLT) from sustainably managed forests. Nature in the home!

Gouda Winterdijk comes from the factory

In construction team realized De Groot Vroomshoop Finch Buildings the building. The wooden modules were produced entirely in the Factory of Wooden Buildings under perfect conditions. Turnkey, that is, including toilet and bathroom, electricity and installations from construction partners. Construction on site was thus more efficient, safer and faster than with traditional buildings.

Relocation Plan

The site is owned by the municipality and has been zoned residential for 10 years. If the zoning plan is not changed after 10 years, the houses can be dismantled, moved and rebuilt elsewhere. The homes have a very long lifespan and should the homes eventually no longer be needed, the cross-layer timber (CLT) will be harvested from this residential building. In this way, the CLT is given a second life and retains its value.

The wooden building will be moved to another location after 10 years.
