Start selling M'DAM!

On the 17th of June it was finally time: the properties of our project in M'DAM have been put up for sale! The complex has a total of 62 houses, made out of 106 modules. Of the 62 apartments, 42 have been put up for sale and 20 are intended for housing corporation Wooncompagnie. There was no lack of interest, it turned out one week after the start of the sale with over 400 registered serious interested parties! Keep an eye on our channels for updates on the project.

Final delivery of studios Alkmaar

At the end of December 2019 our partner De Groot Vroomshoop started the production of the 38 solid wood living studios for Woonwaard in Alkmaar. Within 4 weeks, all 38 studios were delivered ready to use and brought to the construction site in Alkmaar. The placement of the three building blocks took about 2 weeks. At the beginning of March Woonwaard was able to welcome its new residents already in their new apartment. Watch a video of the final result here!

Finch Family Update

At the beginning of July we said goodbye to our colleague Thea Cali, who will continue her education and career in Milan after having worked with us for 1.5 years. We thank Thea for the good time and her beautiful designs!

We introduce two new members of the Finch Family. Junior architect Susanne Vruwink comes from Bureau Rowin Petersma. Architectural draftsman Niels Boswinkel comes over from VenhoevenCS. Welcome Niels and Susanne!

Start me up

Shortly after the completion of the residential studios in Alkmaar, the 38 residents moved in. Start me Up is an initiative of Woonwaard, municipalities and care parties. It concerns a unique living situation, in which young people from all sorts of backgrounds live together in one complex. Students, young people with psychiatric problems, young people with an institutional past. "Actually just like the ordinary world", according to the initiators. Half of the houses in Alkmaar are allocated to young people who receive guidance. Woonwaard had a short documentary made that tells the story of Connor, Annelotte and Pernille. You can watch it here.

Finch Inspiration

T3 in Minneapolis, the beginning of the transition

A building that inspires us dates from a few years ago. In 2016, the first modern wooden building in the United States was completed in more than 100 years. When completed in September 2016, it was the largest timber building in North America, designed by MGA.

The building is designed to build on the character of the past with a progressive modern perspective. This includes the robust character of the historic buildings made of wood, brick, concrete and steel. The building offers ultramodern facilities, environmental performance and technical possibilities. Both retail and office spaces are located in the building spread over seven floors with a user area of over 20,400 square meters. The wood used comes mainly from trees that were killed by the mountain beetle. The total construction on site was only 2.5 months, with an average of 9 days per floor.

Finch Facts

A healthier building

One of the major advantages of building in CLT is that CLT buildings are demonstrably healthier to stay in. CLT is a material that 'breathes', which means that the material regulates humidity in a natural way. If a room is too dry, the wood gives off moisture. When a room is too humid, the wood absorbs moisture. This means, for example, that a CLT building will never be affected by mould. In addition, by using CLT you will not suffer from soil gases such as radon gas, which is present in rocks such as concrete and gypsum. Studies by, among others, the Joanneum Institute (2011)* have shown that staying in an environment of CLT is healthier for humans, with better concentration and a lower heart rate as an example of the proven effects.
