Start construction M'DAM!

The head is off! On Monday, January 11, alderman Jelle Kaars of the municipality of Waterland and Ed de Weijer of BMB Ontwikkeling BV symbolically put the first shovel in the ground and gave the start signal for the construction of M'DAM.

Because of the lockdown, the directors of the other construction partners, De Groot Vroomshoop, Wooncompagnie and of course Finch Buildings, were symbolically present with a portrait photograph.

This summer, the (for the time being) largest wooden house in the Netherlands will be built in Monnickendam! Until then we will keep posting the progress through our channels.

Factory of Wooden Buildings

At the last minute of 2020, good news came from the East of the Netherlands, with the opening of the 'Factory of Wooden Buildings'. Our partner De Groot Vroomshoop Groep has thus made a future-oriented investment, enabling us to continue to scale up Finch Buildings. From 2021, our modules will roll off the assembly line in Enschede, enabling us to serve our clients even better.

We are proud of our cooperation and look forward to the projects in the pipeline. We are ready for the future!

Manifesto Shape

Finch Buildings has been working towards a sustainable, zero-emission building sector since 2014. Signing the manifesto of Vorm was therefore only logical. The manifesto aims for a fair playing field for a more sustainable Netherlands. The calculation methods that are used for the calculation of the environmental impact of building materials, do not meet their main goal: reducing CO2 emissions during the production of building materials. Together with other major players in the construction industry, we call on politicians and policymakers to go beyond the interests of the construction industry and create calculation methods that strongly promote the use of highly emission-friendly materials.

Five new colleagues

In recent months we have welcomed four new colleagues at Finch. For some time we have been joined by Adan Cardak and Jasmijn Rothuizen. Both started at the end of last year as junior architects at Finch Buildings. Besides working at Finch, Jasmijn and Adan are working on their graduation project at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. Recently Joëlle Simons and Sam Knetsch also started. Sam started as an architectural draftsman and BIM modeler. Joelle will be working on a graduation project in the coming half year on the communication and positioning of Finch Buildings. And last but not least, Thomas Geenen is back at Finch after graduating for six months elsewhere!

Adan, Jasmijn, Joelle, Sam and Thomas: welcome to Finch!

City Deal

The Netherlands needs to build many more houses, and quickly. But also sustainable, energy-neutral and without CO2 or nitrogen emissions. One answer to this challenge is circular and conceptual construction. This offers opportunities to realize the housing challenge quickly and with the least possible environmental impact.

On 10 January 2021 the City Deal Circular and Conceptual Building was signed by municipalities, provinces, the state, knowledge institutions and the business community. The aim is to call for all projects to be as circular as possible by 2023 at the latest, so that by 2030 circular building will be the standard.

Of course, Finch Buildings has also signed the City Deal. Building a better future together!

Finch Media

"The largest solid wood building in the Netherlands may finally be erected".

"It has cost some blood, sweat and tears. Two and a half years later than planned, the construction of the largest wooden building in the Netherlands can finally begin in Monnickendam.
The promising project should have been completed by the end of 2018, but it will now be completed in the summer of 2021. The project of 62 houses in Monnickendam has had triple bad luck, sighed Jurrian Knijtijzer, creator of the modular, wooden houses with the name Finch Buildings, during the long run-up to the project. Objections from local residents, a late legal process and new case law. But it can all be forgotten and forgiven."

Finch Inspiration

Floating office

A floating office for the Global Center on Adaptation, moored at the Rijnhaven in Rotterdam, is a building described as a building for a new era. Off-grid and carbon neutral, it will float - rather than flood - as water levels rise due to climate change. Fun and functional, it also forms a key element in a newly redeveloped harbour environment by providing waterfront public space. It even includes a swimming pool!

Finch Facts

CLT Manual

Inbo Architectural Firm recently conducted research into the application of CLT in Dutch building projects. For this purpose, Inbo conducted interviews with experts by experience in the construction sector. As a timber builder since 2014, could Finch Buildings of course not be missing. Also colleague companies Team V ArchitectureArup   Pieters Bouwtechniek BV and timber structures were willing to share their knowledge, making the manual a valuable document. Architects, contractors and concept developers can therefore make use of the knowledge about timber construction built up in recent years by the compilers of the manual.
