We are Pieter, Joran and Jurrian, the founders of the Finch Floating Homes Foundation. The idea for a floating house was created by work and study in the Philippines. We have lived in the province of Bulacan for a long time, 50 kilometers above Manila. The daily flooding in this area was a big shock. Most of the houses will be filled with water twice every day. This daily reality means for the inhabitants that they live in poor hygiene, in continuous existence uncertainty and in constant fear of damage to their property.
The province of Bulacan lies in the largest delta of the Philippines. Floods plague the delta and its inhabitants. The floods are caused by a combination of the tides, heavy rainfall and ground prolapse. The impact of these factors is increasing due to climate change and local conditions, such as overpopulation and the low quality of housing.
To provide a solution for this combination of problems we have designed a floating house. The house is resistant to the daily flooding at high tide and against typhoons in the rainy season. Moreover, in our home you can live safely and comfortably in places that are not suitable for traditional homes, such as rivers and fish ponds. The Finch floating homes are designed to be comfortable for a Filipino family of five people.
We want to build our first pilot houses in the province of Bulacan as soon as possible. We want to test the house and prove that floating housing is the best solution for this problem. Then we can build the house on a large scale so that it becomes affordable for local agencies and families. We need your help in generating a starting capital for the first homes!
