Building with CLT: Manual

Building with CLT: Manual by Info

In the Dutch construction industry there is a lot of interest in building with CLT. There is only a lack of knowledge on the subject. As a result, timber construction is not yet widely applied. The colleagues at architectural firm Inbo have conducted research into the application of CLT in Dutch construction projects.

To this end, Inbo held discussions with parties in the construction industry who have experience building in wood. As a timber builder since 2014, Finch Buildings obviously could not be missing. Our architects contributed knowledge about modular design and construction with CLT based on Finch projects in Alkmaar Monnickendam. Fellow firms Team V Architecture, Arup, Pieters Bouwtechniek and Adviesbureau Lüning were also willing to share their knowledge, making the manual a valuable document.

Inbo, congratulations on the beautiful result. The wood building revolution is in full swing!

Building with CLT (Cross Laminated Timber)

The options within timber construction are many. In this guide, we focus on CLT (Cross Laminated Timber), also known as solid wood construction. This is a structural material constructed from at least three cross-laminated single-layer slats glued together at right angles, to be used as walls and floors. This makes this a promising wood product with about the same strength and application potential as concrete. CLT could therefore be a good alternative to concrete.

Who is this manual for?

This manual was created primarily for architectural firms that want to use wood construction. In addition, we also hope to get other building partners, such as contractors, consultants, clients and developers excited with this manual and show them why a changeover in the building industry is necessary.
